Service Changes You. Healing Can Too.
Trauma-informed counseling and art therapy for active-duty service members, veterans, military spouses, and military families throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Because Service Doesn't End When the Uniform Comes Off
Whether you're navigating the demands of military service, transitioning to civilian life, supporting a loved one who serves, or making sense of experiences that continue to stay with you long after service, therapy can provide a space to process your story, reconnect with yourself, and move forward with greater clarity and compassion.
Military life asks a great deal of the people who serve, and of the families who serve alongside them.
The demands of military life often extend far beyond deployments or duty assignments. Frequent moves, long separations, changing roles, uncertainty, and the emotional weight of service can continue to influence your relationships, identity, and well-being long after those experiences have ended.
Whether you're active duty, a veteran, transitioning to civilian life, or a military spouse supporting your family through the unique rhythms of military life, you may find yourself carrying experiences that others don't fully understand.
You may recognize yourself in experiences like these:
Feeling disconnected from civilian life
Struggling to adjust after military service or deployment
Feeling "on guard" even in safe environments
Difficulty slowing down or relaxing
Changes in identity or purpose after service
Relationship challenges or communication difficulties
Grief, loss, or survivor's guilt
Carrying experiences you rarely talk about
Wondering why life feels harder than you expected after everything you've been through
If this feels familiar, you're not alone, and you don't have to navigate it by yourself.
The Lasting Impact of Military Life
Military culture values strength, adaptability, commitment, and putting the mission first. Those qualities are deeply meaningful and often become an important part of who you are.
At the same time, repeated exposure to stress, uncertainty, trauma, and constant transition can shape the way you experience the world.
Many service members and veterans develop protective patterns that once served an important purpose:
Remaining constantly alert
Compartmentalizing emotions
Taking care of others before yourself
Staying focused on the mission
Continuing to push forward despite exhaustion
These responses are not signs that something is wrong with you. They are often understandable adaptations to extraordinary experiences.
Therapy isn't about taking away the strengths that helped you serve. It's about helping you understand how those experiences continue to influence your life today, and creating space for healing alongside the resilience you've already built.
Military Spouses Serve Too
Military spouses often carry responsibilities that are invisible to the outside world.
Holding down the home during deployments.
Starting over after another move.
Building community from scratch.
Supporting a partner through the emotional impact of military service while quietly carrying your own stress, uncertainty, grief, and sacrifices.
The military lifestyle asks a great deal of spouses and families, yet their experiences are often overlooked.
At Create & Connect, we believe your story deserves space too.
Therapy offers an opportunity to process your own experiences, strengthen your relationships, reconnect with your identity beyond caregiving, and receive the same compassion you so often extend to others.
A Therapy Practice That Understands Military Culture
Create & Connect was founded by two therapists whose lives have been personally and professionally shaped by military communities.
As a Navy veteran and military spouse, Chris and Casey understand that military service affects far more than the individual in uniform. Combined with years of experience supporting service members, veterans, military families, and individuals navigating trauma, our practice is grounded in both clinical expertise and genuine appreciation for the unique experiences military life can bring.
Our goal is to create a space where you feel understood from the very beginning, without needing to explain the culture, the sacrifices, or the weight that service can carry.
Supporting Healing in a Way That Fits You
Healing isn't one-size-fits-all.
At Create & Connect, we tailor therapy to your goals, experiences, and comfort level. Depending on your needs, your sessions may integrate trauma-informed counseling, Internal Family Systems (IFS), art therapy, or a combination of approaches designed to support lasting healing.
Whether you're processing military trauma, navigating a major life transition, strengthening relationships, or simply trying to reconnect with yourself, we'll work together to find an approach that feels meaningful and effective for you.

Creating Space for Your Story
Military experiences are often layered.
Some memories bring pride.
Some bring grief.
Some are difficult to explain because they hold both at the same time.
Art therapy offers another way to explore those experiences through creativity, reflection, and self-expression.
Rather than focusing on artistic ability, art therapy helps us explore emotions, memories, identity, and resilience in ways that sometimes feel more natural than conversation alone. No artistic experience is necessary, only a willingness to be curious about your own story.
You Don't Have to Navigate This Next Chapter Alone.
Whether you're currently serving, transitioning to civilian life, supporting someone in the military, or making sense of experiences that continue to shape your life, therapy can provide a place to process, heal, and reconnect with yourself.
When you're ready, we're here to walk alongside you.
